Since I was pleased with the outcome of my violet framed wall art, I opted to create another piece. This time, I designed it for the living room, using a different color scheme. If you missed the violet wall art, you can click below to take a look.
The canvas I used for this latest wall art piece had a Halloween theme, which I painted during one of my complimentary painting classes. It complements the current season, doesn't it? While I enjoyed painting it, I wouldn't consider displaying it on any of my walls, even temporarily. I know, it's just me... 😟
Farewell painting. Hello gesso!
To begin, I chose some more papier mâché items that I had made years ago and selected a few pieces of costume jewelry from a separate box to use. Before arranging them on the canvas to determine general concept of placement, I painted over them to achieve the desired colors. I forgot to take a 'before' photograph of them. Whoopsie! 🤪
Next, I created the background by mixing and blending various shades of green and turquoise along with a touch of yellow acrylic paint.
Putting the jewelry back onto the painted canvas enabled me to envision the space left for adding more items. It also permitted me to fine-tune the painted colors on the items.
Here's the canvas 'stage' with the lead 'actors' securely attached. I also added a couple small trinkets, and some cut, sanded and painted wooden skewers. Can you find the 'Waldos?'
In my opinion, more embellishments were still needed for the piece. I came across a vintage large, beaded necklace with unique spacers in another box (yeah, I have a lot of boxes 😍 ). These spacers resembled tiny, decorated washers, prompting me to break the necklace and affix the spacers without any additional painting.
Presenting the completed artwork! Stephen crafted the frame, assembled everything, and even cut the glass for it. His skills in this area are improving significantly. This is beneficial as I plan to create two more pieces of the same size but with completely different colors and decorations. While I work on the other two pieces, this one is temporarily displayed on my shelf, awaiting its new location. You could say it's currently 'Off the Wall,' just like me! 🤪
Newspaper was used in the paper mâché items, old jewelry pieces were incorporated, wooden skewers were cut, sanded, and painted, and old threads were utilized to upcycle this artwork.
I’ll be back next Wednesday to show you what I’ve been working on. Hope you’ll stop by again for a visit.
