Keeping My Claw On the Ball

During the past week, I've been occupied with the upcycling of a furniture item I came across on Marketplace. Originally priced at $40.00, it was reduced to $25.00 - Bonus! What caught my attention the most about this Chippendale-style piece was how its legs and ball and claw 'feet' perfectly matched those of my dining room table. I saw it as a wonderful opportunity to practice on before embarking on painting my table and chairs. The experience proved to be very educational, boosting my confidence as I painted this end table. I am now eager to tackle the larger project. For now, this upcycled piece will add to the eclectic style of my New Orleans-inspired home.

And now, let's begin with the makeover for this week.

After painting the legs black, I added the first coat of paint to the ball and talons.

Having some rice paper left over from my last furniture makeover, I chose to use it on this project.

I was curious to observe the effect of the gold paint on the dark wood.

Since it didn't work out as expected, I decided to paint these sections white before reapplying the gold paint.

I really preferred this much more.

At this moment, I made the choice to remove the white paint on the top, so now it's shown with the initial layer of black paint applied. One more coat and it will resemble the drawer front.

I also refreshed the hardware with the same gold paint that was used on the wings.

Thank you, Barbara. It was fun working on this piece and I hope the dining room furniture will be fun, too.
