Fish On a Frig

Have you ever wondered what to do with all the magnetic ads you get in charity mailings? Do you stick them on your fridge or toss them in the trash? Since you can't keep them all, I thought of a creative way to embellish them and turn them into fun and useful gifts. Here is one that I transformed recently.

The larger ones are ideal as they offer ample space for decoration.

Applying gesso on top of the magnet is particularly effective on the smooth surface because it creates a textured surface for the paint to stick to. It's not imperative to cover the magnet so that you can't see the original design either, especially if you will be using a darker paint.

Here it is with just a single coat of turquoise paint.

Next, I applied a mixture of lime green and yellow paint to create the illusion of water.

Here I added some beach sand to the bottom of the magnet.

Here are some tiny, colorful seashell bags that were gifted to me. Eureka! I discovered a perfect spot to use some of them.

By using glue, I managed to attach some of these shells to the underside of the magnet, on the area where I previously attached the beach sand.

While searching through my craft boxes, I came across some polymer clay fish that I had created the previous year. These would be ideal and another item that I could utilize on the magnet.

And now, behold three (3) colorful fantasy fish at the bottom of the sea. Here they are displayed on my fridge. Watch them as they swim... 😁

Usually, I conclude my weekly stories by mentioning my return the following Wednesday. However, due to the imminent arrival of Hurricane Milton tonight, we anticipate a power outage for an extended period. Despite the mandatory evacuation notice issued on Monday, we have chosen to remain in our condo. Having weathered the impact of Ian previously and stayed safe, we believe that Milton is not forecasted to make a direct hit on Fort Myers where we are located. If I am not back next week, it will most likely be that we will have no power. I will be back as soon as we get back to a somewhat 'normal' state.

I would like to take this moment to express our gratitude, Stephen's and mine, for the support and offers of shelter provided by our dear friends. We truly value and appreciate your kindness more than words can express. Having such caring friends reminds us of how fortunate we are, and we thank you all so much for everything.
