Cigar Box 2.0

Remember my blog titled 'Not the Bogey's Stogie Box'? If not, you can check it out below.

I mentioned before that I got two (2) boxes, and this week, I am going to present cigar box number 2 - 2.0. However, before I proceed, I would like to share some interesting information that I discovered while researching the subject. I'm curious, what can I say?

  1. Your high-quality cigars are typically packed in boxes made of either cedar plywood, solid cedar, or mahogany. The budget smokes can be packed in cardboard boxes.

  2. The reason cedar is chosen is because it's a natural repellent of the cigar beetle. Yes, there is such a thing. 😟

  3. A Gurkha Royal Courtesan cigar sells for 1.36 million dollars AND 12 million are sold yearly!!! I guess these buyers aren't suffering any inflation woes.

And now introducing the second cigar box in its bare, vulnerable state, eagerly waiting to be decorated.

As usual, let's apply a coat of gesso to it.

I added the turquoise color and then blended it with some white paint. I am on a blending practice path, so whenever I am afforded the chance, I take it.

Inside the box, there was a wooden slat that seemed intended to divide the contents into two tiers. However, I chose to use it as a decorative element on the box's lid. I painted it a vibrant lime green and also added some white paint to blend it in. I just gotta blend, blend, blend... 😁

Indeed, I consistently save leftover pieces and search for opportunities to repurpose them. In this instance, the ideal spot happened to be the lid of the cigar box. Bonus!!! 😍

I repurposed a set of papier mâché earrings I crafted in the early 2000s by transforming them into decorative elements. Simply by applying a fresh coat of paint over the existing colors, I achieved a metallic finish on the earrings, resulting in a shimmering effect.

Before completing the lid, I lined the interior with felt. If using different colors, I always place the darker color on the bottom. I have my reasons for doing both of these things, trust me. 😉

Here is the front side of the box. Now you can observe how the lime green wooden slat is placed on the lid.

Introducing the beautifully decorated and fancy cigar box 2.0. In addition to the wooden scrollwork, delicate rice paper and papier mâché earrings, I included painted metal charms and two stylishly embellished dragonflies. The bronze metal charms were painted silver to achieve a harmonious balance with the overall design.

Guess what? I recently acquired a couple more cigar boxes and two (2) tiny wooden boxes that I am eagerly waiting to start embellishing. I have some really kewl ideas that I hope will turn out well. 🤞🤞🤞
